WELLAND, ON: Niagara College is announcing the departure of interim women's basketball head coach, Kimbal Mackenzie. After a successful season with the program, Kimbal's interim position will end May 31st.
In his first season as a head coach, the Oakville native was able to draw from his extensive playing experience and take the team on a 14-2 regular season run, defeating division rivals Humber Hawks and Mohawk Mountaineers before losing to the Fanshawe Falcons in a heartbreaking playoff elimination game.
Mackenzie's plan was always to return to play the 2025 season with the CEBL's Niagara River Lions and defend their 2024 CEBL championship.
"I'm very thankful to Niagara College and the athletic department for entrusting me with this amazing opportunity," said Coach Mackenzie. "I could not have asked for a better group of women to coach in my first year. It was a pleasure to work with Michele, Lorelle, and the rest of the NC athletic department. I'm looking forward to watching the team's, and school's, continued success!"
"We are grateful to have had Kimbal step in to coach our women's basketball team this year," said Director, Athletics & Student Engagement, Michele O'Keefe. "His extensive playing experience gave him a great start in, what I'm sure will be, a long coaching career. We wish him all the best."
The search for a new head coach to lead the program will begin immediately.
