RECAP: Weavers leads, Dixon second, men's team third after day 1

The Niagara Knights golf team got off to a blistering start at the 2016 OCAA Golf Championship, presented by Belairdirect.

Lorelle Weavers (Burlington) sits in first place after the tournament's first round, carding a 1-over 73. She carries a two-stroke lead over Georgian's Addison Wallwin, playing on her home course. Weavers recorded four birdies to go along with five bogey's en route to the day's low round.

On the men's side Josiah Dixon (Bognor) fired a 2-under 70 to find himself in a tie for second after day one. He is one shot stroke behind leader Jamaal Moussaoui from St. Lawrence Kingston. Evan Littlefield (Thunder Bay) and Brett Shewchuk (Thunder Bay) both carded 3-over 75s to sit tied in 12th. Logan Lammerant (Seaforth) in tied for 16th after recording a 4-over 76, while Ben Kenel (Hamilton) rounded out the group with a 6-over 78.

Collectively the Knights men sit in third place, only three shots behind the tournament leading Georgian Grizzlies. Niagara shot a cumulative 8-over 296. Georgian carded a 293, while the Durham Lords sit in second with a 6-over 294. 

The second round kicks off this morning at 9am, with Josiah Dixon and Lorelle Weavers the first golfers out for the Knights.
