RECAP: Knights climb the leaderboard on Day 2

The Niagara Knights golf team continued to climb the standings on day two of the OCAA Golf Championship, presented by Belairdirect. Josiah Dixon (Bognor) and Lorelle Weavers (Burlington) both shot the day's low rounds to find themselves leading their respective tournaments heading into the final day.

Weavers, the defending OCAA Champion, holds a three stroke leading through two rounds. She carded a 6-over 78 to maintain extend her lead over Georgian's Addison Wallwin by one. The two-time All-Canadian and Niagara College Athlete of the Year is looking to add to her already stacked trophy cabinet. Alongside her 2015 OCAA gold medal, Weavers also captured the 2015 CCAA silver medal and was the 2014 CCAA National Champion.

On the men's side Josiah Dixon shot a blistering 4-under 68 to leapfrog into first place entering the final round. After opening his day with an eagle on the par-5 10th, Dixon added four birdies and a pair of bogeys through his 18 holes. His low round was matched on the day by Humber's Christian McCullough, who currently sits in second place in the tournament. Dixon was last year's OCCA bronze medalist and is looking to improve upon his result.

Led by Dixon, the Knights men are also in contention to capture their second consecutive OCAA gold medal. The defending champions currently sit 3-strokes back of the host Georgian Grizzlies. As a team they were 10-over on the day, for a two day total of 18-over.

Evan Littlefield (Thunder Bay), the defending OCAA champion, carded an even par 72 and finds himself alone in 6th place. He is within striking distance of the podium, sitting four back of a trio of golfers sitting a 1-under in the bronze medal position. Brett Shewchuk (Thunder Bay), Ben Kenel (Hamilton), and Logan Lammerant (Seaforth) rounded out the scoring for the Knights on day two with rounds of 78, 80, and 82 respectively.

Head Coach Cameron Thin is extremely excited about his team's position heading into the final round. "We had a great practice session after our round today," said Thin. "We are a confident group heading into the final round. I have a good feeling about how the team will perform.
