Knights Grad Night Honours Fall Semester Graduates

The Niagara College department of athletics & recreation held its first ever ‘Knights Grad Night’ at halftime of the women’s basketball game on Friday, January 31^st. The event saw 24 members of Niagara College fall intercollegiate sport programs presented with framed and personalized individual photographs to recognize their academic success.

With a large crowd on hand, members of the Niagara College golf, men’s soccer, and women’s soccer programs were recognized with a half-time ceremony that saw team coaches present their graduating student-athletes with a gift of recognition at center court of the Welland Campus Athletic Centre.

After the event, Director of Athletics & Recreation Matthew Davies commented “"Our first Grad Night was a fantastic success - what an opportunity to recognize our student-athletes' academic success in front of the Knight community!”

The graduating student-athletes have enjoyed a strong year in the classroom. The academic average of the 24 students is 78.3%, and more impressive is the nine student-athletes that currently hold Niagara College honours standing (above 80%).

The event marked the first of two Knights’ Grad Nights scheduled for 2014 as graduating members of the Niagara College winter intercollegiate sport programs will be honoured at a second ceremony at halftime of the women’s basketball game on February 14^th.

Davies continued “We are really looking forward to February 14th when we will celebrate the academic achievements of our volleyball, basketball, and curling student-athletes."
