Knights Golf Capture OCAA Bronze

Paris, ON - Wednesday, October 2nd saw the Niagara College golf team capture their second consecutive OCAA Bronze medal at the 2013 OCAA Championships held at the Paris Grand Golf and Country Club.

The Knights relied on an overall team effort that saw all five members of the team post low scoring rounds throughout the event.

The team consists of Zach Bankuti (Brampton), Brody Gauthier (Cambridge), Evan Littlefield (Thunder Bay), and a pair of local E.I Crossley Secondary School graduates in Lukas Jakobs and Cody Chase.

Niagara College golf head coach Jim Briggs commented "this tournament was an overall team effort. Everyone contributed. Zach and Brody really led the way for us in terms of consistency, but I can't say enough about Cody's round on day three (76), Lukas' round on day two (74), and the contribution Evan gave us on the opening day(77)."

The OCAA Championship consists of three 18-hole rounds, and teams are made up of four or five golfers, with the top four individual scores of each round contributing to the total team score. Schools with the lowest aggregate of gross scores after 54 holes win the respective team titles.

The Humber Hawks captured their eighth consecutive Gold Medal (871), while the Georgian Grizzlies (906) came away with the Silver. The Knights shot a team total 937, 14 strokes better than Fanshawe and St. Lawrence – Kingston.

By capturing the OCAA Bronze Medal, the Knights will now head to the CCAA Championships being held at the Royal Quebec Golf Club in Quebec City, from October 15-18th.

Heading into the event Coach Briggs is confident his team can perform at a higher level. "Each day we left some shots out there. Gong to Nationals I think our best golf is in front of us. The multi-day experience at the OCAAs will help. We are all really looking for to the National Championship."
