The Niagara College golf team opened their 2013 season with a pair of events over the weekend. Saturday saw the Knights play in the rain soaked Fanshawe invitational, while Monday saw the Knights take to their home course for the Niagara College Fall Classic at Hunters Pointe Golf Club.
The Knights entered two teams into the Fanshawe Invitational on Saturday, September 21st at Forest City National Golf and Country Club. The weather conditions made scoring difficult and first-year Professional Golf Management student Evan Littlefield recorded the Knights low round of 72. The Thunder Bay native finished in a tie for fourth place in the event.
The Humber Hawks captured the men's team title, while the St. Clair Saints captured the women's event. The Niagara College team of Evan Littlefield, Zach Bankutti, Brody Gauthier, and Brent Gay finished in fourth place.
The Niagara College Fall Classic golf tournament was contested on Monday, September 23rd at Hunters Pointe Golf Club in Welland, Ontario. The event saw 74 total golfers tee off including 60 in the men's division and 14 in the women's division.
Colton Kalkanis of the Georgian Grizzlies captured the men's individual victory shooting a low round 69, while Adrienne D'Alessio of the Humber Hawks shot an impressive 80 to win the women's individual title. In team play the Humber Hawks captured both the men's and women's team titles.
The Knights once again entered two teams into the event, and both teams finished with a total score of 313, tied for fifth place.
Second-year Professional Golf Management student Zach Bankutti led the way for the Knights shooting a 72. The Brampton native finished the event in a tie for second place.
Up next for the Knights is the annual Durham College Invitational on September 26th and then a quick turnaround for the OCAA Championships beginning Monday, September 30th at the Paris Grand Golf and Country Club in Paris, Ontario.
