The Niagara Knights men's golf team will enter the final round of the Canadian University/College Golf Championship in fifth place. The team shot a 11-over 299 in their third round to keep them in medal contention at the Morningstar Golf Club in Parkview, BC.
When the final round begins, the Knights find themselves within striking distance of the podium. At 36-over par, Niagara is only nine strokes behind the third place University of Fraser Valley Cascades who sit at 27-over par. A strong day for the Knights could see them close the gap and wrap up the tournament with a medal for the first time in the event's history. Currently, the Knights are the highest ranked CCAA team, ahead of the Camosun Chargers and Georgian Grizzlies.
Mark Wikkerink (Trenton) was the low round on the day for the Knights, firing an even par 72. Josiah Dixon (Bognor) had a 1-over 73 and is Niagara's low golfer thus far in the week at 4-over. Nick Schepens (London), Evan Littlefield (Thunder Bay), and Logan Lammerant (Seaforth) rounded out the scoring for the Knights with 76, 78, and 80, respectively. A strong day for the Knights men could see them move up the leaderboard. The final day could see some movement up the leaderboard. Dixon (+4), Wikkerink (+5), and Littlefield (+7) could all find themselves in the tournament's top-10 when things wrap up on Friday afternoon.
On the women's side Lorelle Weavers (Burlington) had a tremendous day. She carded a 2-over 74, which ties for the third best round shot be a female throughout the event. Unfortunately for Weavers it was a case of too little, too late as she failed to make the cut and will not compete on the event's final day.
