PREVIEW: Knights try to ground Eagles, aim to get back on track

It wasn't the season start that the Niagara Knights men's soccer program (0-1, 5th OCAA Central) envisioned when the George Brown Huskies (1-0, 1st OCAA Central) on Friday night. Despite owning the offensive stat sheet, the Knights were eclipsed 3-1 by the Huskies.

The Knights will be looking to find their form when the University of Toronto Mississauga Eagles (0-0, 2nd OCAA Central) make the trip to Welland on Wednesday night. The Eagles finished only a pair of points behind the Knights in the OCAA standings last season, so the early season matchup may prove critical in the playoff race. In their previous two contests against the Eagles, both last season, the Knights earned a 2-1 victory on the road before recording a 1-1 draw at home.

In this matchup the Knights will be looking for more finish from inside the 18-yard box. Keith Makubuya (St. Catharines) was the lone goal scorer against the Huskies, but there were a number of players unable to capitalize on some scoring chances that surely would have changes the momentum of the contest.

The Eagles will be entering their first match of the season, so there is an element of the unknown for both squads without much information on the other. It will be a feeling out process to begin the contest, but the Knights hope they can draw on their experience from the first match to give them the edge needed to drive them to victory.

Youngs Sportsplex is located at 570 River Road, Welland. The women will kick off the doubleheader at 4pm, followed by the men at 6pm. Admission is free for all spectators.
