RECAP: Knights fall to Eagles, await playoff fate on Wednesday

The Niagara Knights men's soccer program (3-5-2, 4th OCAA Central) dropped a 2-1 decision to the UTM Eagles (2-6-1, 6th OCAA Central) on Sunday afternoon in Mississauga.

Keith Makubuya notched the lone tally against the Eagles off a penalty kick. Although Niagara carried the play throughout the match they were unable to solve the UTM defenders and goalkeeper en route to the loss. A win against the Eagles would have guaranteed the Knights a berth in the OCAA playoffs following their final regular season match.

Now their only game left is the waiting game. The Knights will await the results of the matchup between the Seneca Sting (3-6-0, 5th OCAA Central) and Humber Hawks (9-0, 1st OCAA Central) on Tuesday night. Should the Sting upset the Hawks, the Knights will be eliminated from playoff contention.

Niagara's playoff standing could also improve pending upcoming results. Should the Sheridan Bruins (3-4-2, 3rd OCAA Central) drop a decision to UTM, the Knights and Bruins would find them the Bruins, with tiebreaker results still to be determined. If Sheridan earns a draw of victory, they will clinch the third position in the division and send the Knights on the road for their matchup.

Pending results, the Knights playoff matchup date and time will be announced on Thursday.
