Knights Men’s Volleyball Team Snap Six Game Losing Streak

The Niagara College Knights Men's Volleyball team came away with a 3-0 (25-11, 25-19, 25-18) win over the Conestoga College Condors at home on Friday night ending a six-game losing streak.

With the win, the Knights sweep the season series with the Condors and improve their overall record to 4-11, leaving them tied for 7th place in the OCAA West with the Canadore College Panthers with three games remaining in the 2011-2012 regular season.

The Condors, who are 1-15, have only won four sets all season.

Niagara was led by first-year outside hitter Cody McLellan (Chatham, ON), who had nine kills and an ace for 10 points, as well as 10 digs.

"It was an all around team effort, especially on the defensive side of the ball with all starters registering at least five digs each," said head coach Nate Groenveld. "We are getting better all the time and are looking to play the role of spoiler in our last few matches of the season," he added.

The Knights are back in action on Wednesday, February 8 when they travel to Oakville to face the Sheridan College Bruins (8-7). Sheridan shutout Niagara 3-0 in their first meeting on November 16 in Welland.

Game time is 8:00pm.
