RECAP: Weekend sweep lands Knights first two victories of season

The Niagara Knights men's volleyball program (2-3, 7th OCAA West) earned their first two wins of the season over the weekend, sweeping their weekend double-header against the Cambrian Golden Shield (0-4, 9th OCAA West) and the Boreal Viperes (0-4, 10th OCAA West).

Against the Golden Shield on Saturday night, the Knights came out strong, winning the first two sets 25-11 and 25-10. Just as they were looking to earn the sweep for their first victory of the season, Cambrian battled back and won their first set of the season, 25-22.

The Knights would put a halt to the Golden Shield comeback, however, rediscovering their groove to win the fourth set 25-12.

After the matchup with Cambrian, the Knights welcomed Boreal into the gym for their second matchup in two days. Niagara would allow no chances at a comeback in this one as they swept all of the first three sets (25-17, 25-20, 25-17) to earn the match victory.

Elijah Bugiardini (Hamilton) was a force against the Golden Shield on Saturday, registering 16.0 points, including 12 kills on 20 total attack attempts and three service aces. Against Boreal on Sunday, Bugiardini had 5 kills, playing in just two sets.

Micah Nieuwets (St. Catharines) and Jaydon Milne (Toronto) each had 11.0 points against Cambrian, with the former registering 9 kills and the latter adding 10 kills. Milne also added 8 kills against Boreal, leading the team with 8.0 total points.

Ben Fillmore (Port Dover) had 24 assists and 4 kills over Cambrian and added another 19 assists against Boreal.

The Knights will return to the court on Friday, November 16th when they host the Redeemer Royals (3-2, 4th OCAA West). The men's game is scheduled for 8pm, but will begin 30 minutes after the conclusion of the women's matchup against the Royals which starts at 6pm.
