Female Athlete of the Week – Allison Mondloch, Women’s Curling

Allison Mondloch (St. Catharines) of the Niagara Knights women’s curling team has been named this week’s female athlete of the week. The third-year Autism & Behavioural Science student was the Knights MVP this past weekend at the CCAA Championships in London.

The Knights finished the weekend with a 2-5 record in the round robin, but their final record was not indicative of their level of play. The team’s vice, Mondloch did a tremendous job of setting up to score points. Throwing the second to last set of stones, Mondloch setup team skip Megan Droog (Harriston) on a number of occasions to close out ends.

Mondloch was also battling illness throughout the final games of the tournament, making her skilled shot making even more impressive. Her commitment to team strategy garnered high praise from Head Coach Jordan Thin. “I was real proud of her play at the tournament, she did a great job of setting the table for our skip.”

With the conclusion of the CCAA Curling Championship, the Niagara Knights varsity season has drawn to a close. The Knights will host the 47th Annual Athletic Banquet on April 8th, where athletes from all nine varsity teams will be honoured for their accomplishments throughout the 2015-16 varsity intercollegiate season.
