The Niagara College men's soccer program has been named the Ontario College Athletic Association team of the week for the week of September 15th to 21st. The Knights earned the accolade for their 1-0 shutout victory over the defending National Champion Humber Hawks on September 14th.
Carlos Williams, a St. Catharines native and first-year forward for the Knights, scored the game winning goal in the 86th minute.
First-year goalkeeper Jordan Provenzano of Niagara Falls, made several key saves for the Knights en route to securing a shutout victory. The Electrical Engineering Technology student was named Niagara College athlete of the week for his performance.
The victory marks the first time in Niagara College men's soccer history that a Knights team has defeated a Humber men's soccer side.
The Knights are currently 1-1 this season and are looking to dramatically improve on their 2012 regular season record of 1-5-2. Niagara College men's soccer head coach Frank DeChellis commented "the victory of over Humber was important, but our team will celebrate by running harder at our training sessions this week as we prepare for our upcoming matches."
The Knights will visit Conestoga (0-2) on Thursday, September 19th at 4:30pm, before returning to their home field at Youngs Sportsplex to face the St. Clair Saints on Sunday, September 22nd. Kickoff for Sunday's home field matchup is set for 5:00pm and all Niagara College varsity soccer matches feature free admission.
