First Niagara Region Soccer Showcase Hailed a Success

Thursday, June 12th saw the Niagara College soccer programs host the first Niagara Region Soccer Showcase high school all-star game.  The event saw 56 of the region's best boys' and girls' soccer players brought together to showcase the best of Niagara soccer.

The event also served as a used equipment drive in support of the The Hope Centre's  Jump Start initiative. Participants in the showcase were required to donate at least one piece of used sporting equipment. Over 125 pieces of equipment for collected.

Event organizer and Niagara College men's and women's soccer head coach Frank DeChellis commented "tonight was a great night for Niagara Region soccer. The skill and quality of play was excellent, and we are already looking forward to running the event next year."

The women's game saw back and forth action throughout the contest but goalkeepers Alana Rossi (Notre Dame) and Olivia Cirillo (St. Paul) proved up to the task until in the 70th minute when the white team's Miranda Smith (Notre Dame) broke the deadlock.

The game ended 1-0 for 'team white' and team MVPS for the contest were Emily Crowley (Centennial) and Ally Riganelli (St. Francis).

The high scoring men's affair saw team white defeat team blue by a score of 7-2.  Team white's goal scorers were Marc Andre Boucher (A.N. Meyer) and Nick Galvas (Holy Cross).

Team blue were paced by a trio who recorded two goals each in James D'Annunzio (St. Paul), Quinton Leone (A.N. Meyer), Jacob Therrien (Notre Dame). Steven Iammarino (St. Michaels) also recorded a goal for team blue.

MVPs of the men's game were Nick Galvas and James D'Annunzio.
