Men's Soccer Play to Draw With Conestoga

Men's Soccer Play to Draw With Conestoga

Thursday, September 19th saw the Niagara College men's soccer program (1-1-1) play to a 1-1 draw with the Conestoga Condors (0-2-1).  Recording his second goal in as many matches, St. Catharines native Carlos Williams scored the Knights' lone tally in the contest.

For the second consecutive match the forward pairing of Williams and Austin MacDonell proved difficult for an opponent to contain. MacDonell provided a crossing pass to Williams on the game winning goal during the Knights September 14th victory over the Humber Hawks.

Thursday afternoon saw an almost carbon copy of the effort in the 9th minute of the match, as once again the Welland native MacDonell provided a crossing effort that Williams converted to a scoring tally.

Conestoga drew equal with the Knights in the 28th minute on a goal by second-year midfielder Sean Holmes.

After some inconsistent play through the middle portion of the match, the Knights applied steady pressure during the last 30 minutes of the contest. The Knights had multiple outstanding scoring chances but were unable beat Condors' goalkeeper Matteo De Cosmi.

Niagara college men's soccer head coach Frank DeChellis commented "We were two teams today, a team that plays great soccer, and the team that can make our own life miserable. Unfortunately the latter team hurt us a bit today."

Team captain and St. Catahrines native William Janetos felt like the team "battled hard on the road today but didn't get the result we went there for." The fourth-year business administration student continued "I have tremendous confidence in this team and I know our best is yet to come."

The Knights will face a quick turnaround, as the team returns to their home field at Youngs Sportsplex to face the St. Clair College Saints on Sunday, September 22nd. Kickoff is set for 5:00pm and all Niagara College soccer matches feature free admission.
