Falcons Take Down Knights 69-56

February 11, 2023...LONDON - The Niagara Knights women's basketball team fell 69-56 to the Fanshawe Falcons this afternoon in London. With the loss, the Knights drop to 7-7 on this season with just two games remaining on their regular season schedule.

Fanshawe opened the game with a 10 point run before Niagara was able to respond with a steal by Taryn Mitchell that led to a layup to get the Knights on the board. Mitchell picked up seven of her teams 10 points in the first quarter, ending the opening frame trailing 17-10 to the Falcons. 

The second quarter saw the lead change a handful of times with the Knights outscoring the Falcons 24-20, but still trailed the home team 37-34 to head into the second half.

Niagara managed to come within one of Fanshawe's 37-36 lead when Janee Harrison knocked down her two free-throws early in the third. Fanshawe eventually started to pull away from the Knights late in the third to end the quarter with a slim 51-45 lead.

Taryn Mitchell led the Knights with 18 points while Molly Taylor pulled down 14 rebounds.

The Knights got off to a slow start to the fourth, allowing the Falcons to increase the their lead to 58-45 before Niagara was able to get up on the board on a layup from Kate Roth. Fanshawe eventually would out score the Knights 18-11 to cruise to a 69-56 win.

Niagara has just two regular season games remaining on the schedule - Saturday February 18th against St. Clair (7-7) at 3:00pm, and Sunday February 19th against Lambton (12-2). Being the host of the 2023 OCAA Championships March 3-5th, the Knights will get a bye through cross-over play and await their quarterfinal opponent when the Championship tournament begins March 3rd.
