February 18, 2023...WELLAND, Ont. - In the first match-up of Saturday's penultimate regular season game, the Niagara College women's basketball team came out victors at home, 64-60 against the traveling Lambton Lions.

Coming into the Saturday afternoon matinee, Lambton had only lost two games all season and were riding a six-game winning streak prior to this afternoon-including a win over the formerly undefeated Humber Hawks last weekend. Niagara started the game strong, going on a 6-0 run in the opening minutes of the game. Lambton fought back to end the first quarter 13-13 only a single point back of the Knights. Lambton continued to fight throughout the second quarter, shooting the ball well from behind the arc taking a 35-30 lead into the break over Niagara.

Niagara came out with a vengeance to start the second half with an excellent display of two-way basketball, holding Lambton to only 10 points in the third quarter while adding 18 points of their own shooting 58% from the field in the quarter.

The Lions didn't go down quietly. After trading shot for shot in the fourth quarter, two made free-throws from Taryn Mitchell with 1 second left on the clock sealed the win 64-60 and hang on to the narrow victory.

Niagara played hard down low this afternoon outscoring Lambton 34-14 in the paint and out rebounding the Lions 44-25. Taryn Mitchell and Janee Harrison led the way with 19 and 18 points respectively.

This afternoon prior to tip-off, Niagara college celebrated seniors day, honouring Eden Ferraro for her academic and athletic achievements during her one-year with the blue and white, graduating from our Human Resources graduate program.

The women's basketball team will look to add another win tomorrow afternoon as the St. Clair Saints (7-7) will travel to the Welland Campus Athletic Centre in the Knights final game of the regular season.
