Women's Volleyball Season Preview

Women's Volleyball Season Preview

An OCAA medal is the goal of the Niagara Knights women's volleyball team this season. The Knights lost in last year's Bronze medal quarterfinals. The experience however, should prove valuable as the team beings this season's quest for a medal.

Head Coach Joey Martins, the reigning OCAA West Division Coach of the Year feels the 2012-2013 Knights have an "excellent mix of youth and veterans." Adding to an already strong roster is the fact that the team "recruited well, and brought in some solid, foundational volleyball players. "

Martins feels the strength of his team resides in the fact that his players "work hard collectively. We work very well together. No one player will stand out this season. We will all contribute!"  One returning standout this season for the Knights is sure to be 2011-2012 OCAA West Division Second Team All-Star Lindsay Murray. The 3rd year 5-foot-11 outside hitter from Welland, Ontario is studying Environmental Management this year at Niagara.

The Knights will make their season and home debut on Saturday, November 3rd at 6:00pm at the Niagara College Welland campus athletic centre, as they play host to the Nipissing Lakers. Coach Martins feels it's important to have "people in the crowd behind and supporting you. When the student body and staff are in the stands watching, it gives our teams confidence and helps bring the school together."

The Knights also host the Canadore Panthers on Sunday, November 4th at 12:00pm, in the first game of a busy Sunday at the Welland campus athletic centre. The men's volleyball team and men's basketball team also host the Panthers at 2:00 and 4:30pm respectively. Coach Martins urges "everyone in the Niagara College community to come watch some high quality collegiate sport this weekend." All varsity sporting events are free admission during the 2012-2013 season.
