Women's Volleyball Fall to St. Clair

The Niagara College Women's Volleyball Program lost on Friday night to the St. Clair Saints at the Welland Campus Athletic Centre. The 3-1 defeat at the hands of the Saints moves the Knights (5-7) into a tie for the sixth and final playoff spot in the OCAA's West Division.

Niagara Head Coach Joey Martins felt his team "came out flat in the first two sets."

The Knights dropped the first two sets 25-22 and 25-16 before finding their service and offensive game in set three. Niagara won the third set 25-18.

"We played a lot better in set three" felt Coach Martins. Leading the way offensively for the Knights was third-year outside hitter Jenna Bray. The Burlington native had an outstanding game for the Knights finishing the contest with a game high 17 kills, while also adding 21 digs.

Despite the third set surge, Coach Martins felt the "comeback came a little too late in the match, and some unlucky bounces in the fourth set gave the Saints the win." The Saints earned a tight 26-24 fourth set victory.

The Knights will look to rebound next weekend when the team heads to North Bay for a pair of matches against the Canadore Panthers (0-12) and Nipissing Lakers (9-2).

The Knights will return to the Welland Campus Athletic Centre on Friday, February 1st when the team hosts the Redeemer University Royals at 6:00 pm.
