Knights' Winning Streak Snapped

Knights' Winning Streak Snapped

The Niagara Knights women's volleyball team lost their Friday, November 16th matchup against the Humber Hawks in straight sets 3-0. Throughout the evening Knights were promoting the Team Kelsey initiative that is promoting awareness for pediatric brain tumors and childhood cancer.

Team Kelsey is named in honour of Kelsey Lana Hill. Kelsey, the younger sister of current volleyball team member Corrie Hill, passed away on December 13th 2011 at just 13 years old after a long battle with cancer.

In a gesture of true camaraderie and sportsmanship, the visiting Humber Hawks women's volleyball team donated their team meal money to the Team Kelsey cause. Knights' Head Coach Joey Martins and the entire Knights team were truly appreciative of the Hawks' kind gesture.

On the court, the Knights' warmed up in bright green t-shirts and sported green hairbands, shoelaces and bracelets in support of Team Kelsey.

Once the game started, the Knights had an off night on the court. The team fell behind early to the powerhouse Hawks and never fully recovered. The Knights dropped the first set 25-13.

The Knights' play improved in the second set, but a dominant second set performance by 2011-2012 CCAA All-Canadian, and 2011-2012 OCAA Player of the Year Kelly Nyhof squashed any comeback hopes as Humber won the set 25-19. The Hawks went on the win the third set 25-16.

The loss to Humber ends the Knights three game win streak. The 3-2 women's volleyball team will return to the court on Thursday, November 22nd at 6:00pm when the team hosts the Fanshawe Falcons. All Knights' home games are free admission and are live broadcasted and archived at www.sportslive.ca.
