Knights Defeat Bruins in 5-Set Thriller

The Niagara Knights women's volleyball team moved to 2-1 on the season defeating the Sheridan Bruins on Thursday night in a thrilling 5 set match.  After losing a close first set 23-25, the Knights won the next 2 sets in dominant fashion 25-14 and 25-12. After dropping the 4th set 19-25, the Knights rebounded to win a competitive 5th set 16-14.

For the second straight game, Knights' Head Coach Joey Martins felt strong "team play" allowed his team to earn the a hard fought victory.

Led by the strong service game of 3rd year setter Ava Sarkis, the Knights played some of their strongest volleyball of this young season during the 2nd and 3rd sets of the match. Martins however, characterized the victory as an "up and down affair that our girls never gave up in."

Thursday's game "was a great team effort, and the win will help build character for when games are close and on the line" added Martins.

5-foot-11 outside hitter Lindsay Murray had a solid game for the Knights recording 11 kills, 5 blocks, and 10 digs. The 3rd year Environmental Management student was named a 2011-2012 OCAA West Division All Star, and is a key player for the Knights offense this season.
