Knights Lose in Five Sets

The Niagara College Women's Volleyball Program (4-5) lost their second consecutive five-set match on Tuesday night. The Knights travelled to Mohawk to take on the 5-4 Mountaineers. The set scores were 20-25, 25-7, 16-25, 25-22, 15-6.

The Mountaineers played from behind for the majority of the contest. The Knights lead after set one, but the Mohawk responded with a dominant 25-7 second set victory. Unfazed the Knights returned to the court in the third set and earned a strong 25-16 victory.

In each of Niagara's previous two losses, the team has been in a match clinching situation, but has been unable to win the final set. Tuesday night's loss to Mohawk continued that trend.

In sets four and five, the Knights were unable to close out the match with a final set victory. The Mountaineers won a tight fourth set 25-22, before clinching the match with a 15-6 final set victory.

The Knights were led by third year setter Ava Sarkis. The five-foot-six Welland native, had two kills, three service aces, one stuff block, and 11 digs.

The Knights end the 2012 calendar year with a record of 4-5, and are sitting in fifth place in the OCAA West Division.

The team will return to the court on January 4th, 2013 as a participant in the Durham Lords Invitational tournament, before returning to the Welland campus athletic centre on Saturday, January 12th when the team hosts the Sheridan Bruins.
