Sami Bailey Joins Women's Volleyball Program

Niagara College department of Athletics & Recreation is pleased welcome Sami Bailey to the Women’s Volleyball Program. Bailey is an accomplished beach and indoor volleyball player who competed for Galt Collegiate Institute, the KW Predators, and the Scorpions Volleyball Club.

A native of Cambridge Ontario, Bailey has been a target of Knights Head Coach Joey Martins recruiting efforts for over a year. “I have had the opportunity to watch Sami play and grow over the last year. Sami is a player that has the ability to really take over a game” commented Martins.

The 17 year old will lineup at the Leftside position for the Knights beginning in September, and she commented “this whole process is really exciting. Every day I think about joining the program and starting my time at Niagara College, I’m mentally ready for the challenge.”

Coach Martins continued “Sami is always asking the right questions and working on what she needs to improve. She a mature person and I am looking forward to seeing her growth as a student-athlete in a Knights’ uniform.”

An honour roll student, Bailey identified the small town feel of Welland and the beautiful Niagara College Campus as her main reasons for choosing to join the Knights. She plans to enroll in the two-year Community Justice Services program and then continue her education in Police Foundations.

“I want to do really well in my program” said Bailey. “My goal is to be a corrections officer, and Niagara College was the best fit to help achieve that.”

Bailey will join a Niagara College Women’s Volleyball Program that finished 8-10 in 2012-13. And with a solid returning core group of players the team is looking to return to the OCAA Championship this season.

“I want to really take my game to the highest level possible. I want to train harder than I’ve ever trained before.”

Bailey and her new Knights teammates will return to action on October 5th, 2013 when the team begins exhibition play at the annual Fanshawe Invitational Women’s Volleyball Tournament.
