Male Athlete of the Week - Josh Bulda
Josh Bulda of the Niagara College men’s basketball program has been selected as this week’s male athlete of the week. Bulda was outstanding for the Knights from the point guard position during the Monroe College invitational this weekend finishing with 44 points in two games.
Bulda is a first-year Early Childhood Education student. The Mississauga native, stands at five-foot-nine and was the Knights best player during the Monroe College Invitational tournament this past weekend.
During the Knights first game against the host Monroe Tribunes Bulda scored 23 points and added four rebounds. During the Knights second game against Oakland Community College Bulda recorded 21 points. Both totals were team highs for the Knights.
Bulda and the rest of the Niagara College men’s basketball program enter the Holiday break looking to improve on their start to the 2013-14 season. The Knights will return to action on Sunday, January 5th when the team hosts the Genesee Cougars at 4:00pm.
Female Athlete of the Week - Alex Botelho
Alex Botelho of the Niagara College women’s volleyball program has been selected as this week’s female athlete of the week. The third-year middle blocker and Knights’ team captain was outstanding during the team’s tough five-set road loss to the Conestoga Condors on December 4th.
The 2013-14 season has seen Botelho emerge as the leader of the women’s volleyball program. The six-foot native of Stoney Creek led the Knights attack with 14 points on ten kills, three blocks, and a service ace against the Condors.
Botelho is currently enrolled in the Niagara College Recreation and Leisure Services program, and can be found consistently around the Welland Campus Athletic Centre serving as an intramural sports official, or coordinating the operation of weekend Ontario Volleyball Association youth tournaments.
Botelho also ranks among the Knights’ team leaders in virtually all scoring categories.
The Niagara College women’s volleyball program will return to action on January 3rd, 2014 when the teams travels to Oshawa to take part in the annual Durham College Invitational women’s volleyball tournament.
