Male Athlete of the Week - Christian Carvajal
Christian Carvajal of the Niagara College men’s soccer program has been selected as this week’s male athlete of the week. Carvajal was instrumental during a pair of games for the Knights on October 4th and 6th.
Carvajal is a native of Welland, Ontario and is a graduate of Notre Dame College School. He is in his second year of eligibility, having previously played for the Knights in 2009.
Niagara College men’s soccer head coach Frank DeChellis commented “Christian’s contribution over last 4 games has been outstanding. Very strong play on the flanks, tough defending and combines well with his teammates. He started year out slowly with an injury but has worked with therapists and coaches to ramp up his comeback.”
Carvajal scored his first goal of the season during the Knights 3-1 loss to the Sheridan Bruins on October 4th. He would follow the performance up with an outstanding game during the Knights 4-0 victory over the Lambton lions on October 6th.
Carvajal and the rest of the Niagara College men’s soccer program will visit the St. Clair Saints on October 12th for the first round of the OCAA Playoffs.
Female Athlete of the Week - Cassie Broadbent
Cassie Broadbent of the Niagara College women’s soccer program has been named this week’s female athlete of the week. Broadbent scored the Knights’ lone goal during a 2-1 loss to the Lambton Lions on October 6th.
Aside from scoring her first goal of the 2013 season against Lambton, the forward played 170 of 180 minutes during the Knights two matches last week.
Niagara College women’s soccer head coach Frank DeChellis commented “Cassie has done everything we've asked of her this year. She's fit, fast and smart. Her goal was well deserved and everybody was happy for her.”
Broadbent is a graduate of Christ the King Catholic Secondary School in Georgetown, Ontario and is currently enrolled in Niagara College’s early childhood education program.
