Knights Defeat Falcons

The Niagara College Men's Basketball Program saved one of its strongest performances for the final home game of the 2012-13 season. Monday night saw the Knights cruise to an impressive 95-69 victory over the 12-5 Fanshawe Falcons.

The victory improves the Knights to 12-6 on the season, and temporarily into fourth place in the competitive OCAA West Division.

The Knights shot a red hot 58% in the first half eventually opening up a 34 point lead before looking to their bench to give their starting five some rest.

Five Niagara College players finished the game in double digit scoring including Alex Campbell (17), Darian Rowe (16), Anto Raic (15), Jimmy Bilenga (14), and Marako Lundy (13).

The matchup was the Knights' final of game of the 2012-13 and could represent the final appearance for both Alex Campbell and Jimmy Bilenga at the Welland Campus Athletic Centre. Both players are in their final year of their academic programs.

Campbell, a six-foot-two guard from Brampton, Ontario has been a key player for the Knights over the last two seasons, winning the 2011-12 Niagara College Rookie of the Year and Athlete of the Year awards, the OCAA Rookie of the Year, and being selected as an OCAA First-Team All-Star. Campbell is averaging 16.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game.

Bilenga, was the Knights 2010-11 Rookie of the Year, and 2011-12 Team Leadership Award winner. The six-foot guard from Hamilton, has been the Knights leading scorer this season, averaging 18.8 points, 4.4 assists, and 4.1 rebounds per game.

The Knights will wrap up the 2012-13 regular season with a pair of road games against the 6-11 Redeemer Royals and 11-6 Humber Hawks. Wins in both games will guarantee the Knights a home playoff game on Sunday, February 24th at 2:00pm.
