Knights Men’s Basketball cannot finish the job in Hamilton

The Knights men's basketball team's six-game win streak comes to an end after suffering a loss in another close game against the Mohawk Mountaineers on Wednesday at the David Braley Athletic and Recreation Centre (DBARC).

The game started off very intense with both teams trading baskets and getting defensive stops, ending the quarter tied at 18 points apiece.  In the second quarter, the Knights were struggling, and the Mohawk Mountaineers outscored the Knights by 10 ending the half 48-38. The Knights did not have a great start to the second half, but they started to rely on their defense which helped them close the lead to a 4-point deficit, ending the quarter 61-65. In the fourth quarter, the Knights were determined to win the game and were able to take the lead 81-75. The Knights struggled to score and couldn't contain the Mohawk Mountaineers' offense and the Knights were unfortunately not able to hang on for the victory with the final score of the game being 83-86 in favor of Mohawk.

Niagara had many contributors in this game and some good support off the bench. The Knights had two leading scorers who were Simon Ricketts-Ewen with 17 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, and 1 block as well as Ethan Alino-DelaCruz with 17 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist, and 2 steals. Kenneth Reckley Jr also had a good game with 12 points, 8 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 block.

The Knights are now sitting 3rd in the OCAA West Division with a 9-5 record hoping to shake this loss off and win the next game at home against the Canadore Panthers at 1:00 pm on Sunday, January 28th.
