Niagara College Women's Basketball Signs Toronto Native Samantha Kwan for 2019-2020

April 4, 2019...WELLAND, Ont. - Niagara College women's basketball head coach Mike Beccaria has had a busy off-season. After finishing 14-10 and a third place finish at the OCAA (Ontario Colleges Athletic Association) championship, Beccaria has been on the hunt to fill some spots on his roster for the fall.

After recruiting a couple local products in Mackenzie Schroeder and Beth DoBoer, Beccaria picked up Central Technical High School standout Samantha Kwan out of Toronto. Kwan, 5'5", comes to the Knights as a shooting guard from the Mississauga Knights Basketball Program.

While Kwan is a sharp shooter, Beccaria knows he's got a great two-way player in Kwan with her aggressive style of play at both ends of the court.

"Samantha is a guard with the ability to score." says Beccaria. She plays good defence and we love her aggression at both ends of the floor. We're excited to she what she can do at the college level next season."

Kwan also has her sights set on excelling in the classroom as well as on the floor. Enrolled in the Sports Management program at Niagara, Kwan finished her high school career as an honour roll student and hopes to continue that momentum into her first year at the college.

"My goal is to work hard every time I'm on the court and off." says Kwan. "I want to be someone my teammates can count on while succeeding academically in my program."

Kwan and the rest of the Knights will return to action for training camp in September for their quest for a OCAA gold next season.
