Knights Women’s Basketball Head to Bronze Medal Game at OCAA Championships

Knights Women’s Basketball Head to Bronze Medal Game at OCAA Championships

March 2, 2024, SARNIA

The Knights women's basketball team began their two-day trip to the OCAA Final Four championship with a rematch against the Lambton Lions at the Cestar Group Athletics & Fitness Complex.  The home court advantage proved too much for the Knights to overcome as the crowed amped up their Lions women's basketball team and helped push them to the 65-50 win over the Knights.

The Knights had a flat first quarter and the Lions came out hot, scoring 22 points and holding Niagara to a measly 12.  Destiny Osadebamwen scored a team-high 6 points in the first quarter but could not get any help on the foul calls when driving to the net.  The Knights were helped in the second quarter by Griffin Lack-Shane from beyond-the-arc, but still could not contain the Lambton offense.  The Knights were down 42-25 at the half.

The third quarter was not much of a different story for the Knights although they were able to hold the Lions to only 17 points.  The Knights brought the heat in the second half of the fourth quarter using the press to cause 7 turnovers and score 14 points while holding the Lions to only 6, but it was not enough to make the comeback.

Janee Harrison was named OCAA Player of the Game with 13 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals.  Griffin Lack-Shane contributed 9 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 block and Destiny Osadebamwen added 9 points, 16 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals.

The Knights will take the night to rest and recover as they look ahead to the bronze medal match being played tomorrow at 2:30pm at the Cestar Group Athletics & Fitness Complex.  The game will be live streamed at occalive.com.
