Knights Women's Volleyball Team Lose Heartbreaker To Falcons

The Niagara College Knights Volleyball teams travelled to London on Wednesday night for their first matches of 2012. Unfortunately, the Knights Women's team lost 3-2 (25-16, 24-26, 23-25, 26-24, and 15-8) to the Fanshawe College Falcons, after being within one point away from winning the match, two times.

Leading the way for Niagara was outside hitter Jenna Bray (Burliungton, ON) with 13 points. The former Fanshawe Falcon was playing in her first league game for the Knights. Three other Niagara players reached double digits in scoring. Marieka Ouimette (Spencerville, ON) and Nicole Schoonderwoerd (Tavisock, ON) each had 11, while Lindsay Murray (Welland, ON) scored 10 points.

"We found ourselves behind a lot in this match fighting back from 6 or 7 points down," said Head Coach Joey Martins. "The girls never gave up, and made each set close and interesting. We must now bounce back and get ready for our next match."

With the loss, the Knights record falls back to the .500 mark at 5-5 good enough for 4th place in the OCAA West Region, while the third place Falcons improved to 8-2. The Knights are back in action on Wednesday, January 18 when they host the Mohawk College Mountaineers (2-8).

Game time is 6:00pm.

Admission proceeds from this game will go towards the Niagara College United Way Campaign.
