Knights Women’s Volleyball Team Beat Bruins In Five Sets

The Niagara College Knights Volleyball team beat the Sheridan College Bruins 3-2 (20-25, 25-23, 25-6, 21-25, and 15-12) in Oakville last night to improve their record to 9-7.

Marieka Ouimette (Spencerville, ON) had one of her best games of the year for Niagara with six kills, four aces, and nine blocks for 19 points, and added four digs. Lindsay Murray (Welland, ON) had 13 points and seven digs, while Jenna Bray (Burlington, ON) scored 12 points and two digs.

Ava Sarkis (Welland, ON), recovering from a leg injury, came in part way though the match and scored five points, and got five digs.

"It's always scary losing the fourth set going into the fifth," said head coach Joey Martins. "The other team has the momentum and are all excited for their win. However, our girls did not let it faze them as we took an early lead and never looked back."

With this victory, the Knights have almost guaranteed our 4th place finish in the division, which means they would host our cross-over match to get into OCAA Championships.

There are only two games left in the 2011-2012 regular season. The Knights will travel to Windsor on Sunday to take on the St. Clair Saints (6-10). In their first meeting back on December 4 in Welland, St. Clair beat Niagara 3-1. Game time Sunday is at 2:00pm.

The Knights will then host the first-place and undefeated Humber College Hawks (16-0) on Wednesday, February 15 to close out the regular season.
Niagara lost 3-1 in the season opener back on November 3 in Etobicoke.
