Knights Women's Volleyball Team Upset Nipissing Lakers

The Niagara College Knights Women's Volleyball team snapped a two game losing skid with an impressive 3-2 (25-21, 13-25, 25-20, 21-25, 17-15) win over the no. 2 ranked in Ontario (11th in the CCAA), the Nipissing University Lakers on Saturday evening.

Jenna Bray (Burlington, ON) and Lindsay Murray (Welland, ON) each had 16 points for the Knights. Bray finished with 12 kills and four aces, along with 16 digs, while Murray had 15 kills and one ace, along with 20 digs.

Megan Gilmore (Cambridge, ON) had 14 kills for the Lakers, who are in third place in the OCAA West region with a record of 10-3.

With the win, the Knights avenged an earlier season 3-0 loss to the Lakers on November 26 in North Bay, and are back at the .500 mark with a record of 6-6.

"We went into the game knowing they are a very good team and that if we fought hard for every point to keep the sets close, we could steal a couple sets and get it to the fifth set where anyone can win," said head coach Joey Martins. "We had great games from everyone. Setter Ava Sarkis (Welland, ON) executed the game plan very well. She also had 17 digs," he added.

The Knights are back in action on Sunday, January 29 when they host the Canadore College Panthers (1-11) from North Bay. Game time is 12:00pm.
