Men's Soccer Improve to 2-1 on the Season

Saturday, September 13th saw the Niagara College men's soccer program improve to 2-1 on the season after defeating the visiting Conestoga Condors by a score of 3-2 at Youngs' SportsPlex in Welland, Ontario.

Mother nature did her best to disrupt the game plans of both teams, as scattered showers, cool temperatures and high winds wreaked havoc throughout the afternoon matchup.

The early stages of the game saw the Knights play some of their best soccer of the young 2014 season.

Making his 2014 home debut, second year striker Carlos Williams opened the scoring for the Knights in the 6th minute. The St. Catharines native converted on a loose ball inside the 18-yard box, notching his first goal of the campaign. Williams led the Knights in scoring in 2013 finishing with five goals in 8 games.

Second year midfielder Jordi Amores (St. Catharines) stretched the Knights lead to two heading into the half, converting on a goal mouth area scramble in the 41st minute. The Holy Cross graduate was named an OCAA All-Star in 2013, and is currently enrolled in Niagara College's graphic design program.

Third-year striker Keith Makubuya continued his outstanding play, recording his second goal of the season the 63rd minute. Makubuya brings the Knights skill and experience at the forward position, having spent the last three years completing as a member of Toronto FC.

The final 25 minutes of the contest saw the Knights lose momentum and allow the Condors to pull within one on the score sheet, as Tyrone Douglas and Danilo Richards scored in the 74th and 80th minute.

The Knights seemed to regain their composure over the final 10 minutes of the match, eventually walking away with the 3-2 victory.

Second-year goalkeeper Jordan Provenzano recorded his second win of the season, turning aside six saves in the contest, including a second half penalty kick.

Up next for the Niagara College men's soccer program is a Tuesday, September 16th matchup versus the powerhouse Sheridan Bruins (2-0). Kick-off is set for 5:00pm.
