2014 OCAA Soccer All-Stars Announced

October 24-25th saw the OCAA men's and women's soccer championships contested, and during the event the 2014 OCAA soccer all-stars were announced.

On the men's side forward Carlos Williams earned his first selection while Jordi Amores earned his second consecutive all-star award. The Niagara College women's soccer program saw a pair of midfielders in Jackie Lawther and Nicole Forbes earn their first OCAA All-Star selections.

"The individuals who were selected as 2014 league all-stars embody the best qualities of many of our players" said Niagara College men's and women's soccer head coach Frank DeChellis. "Individual awards are a difficult concept in a team sport, but Jordi, Carlos, Jackie, and Nicole are all talented and high characters members of our program that that deserve to be recognized at the provincial level."

St. Catharines native Carlos Williams served as a co-captain for the Knights during the 2014 season.  From the striker position, Williams finished the regular season with a team leading four goals in seven matches, marking the second consecutive season that he has led the team in scoring. Williams is in his second year of the Niagara College protection, security, and investigations program.

Second year midfielder Jordi Amores has been selected as a league all-star in both years during his time in the OCAA. Amores is a native of Niagara Falls, and is a graduate of Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School. From the centre midfield position Jordi's skill and creatively were a driving force behind the Knights' winningest season in program history. Amores is currently enrolled in the Niagara College graphic design program.

Grimsby native Jackie Lawther enjoyed an outstanding first season with the Niagara College women's soccer program. Having spent her previous two seasons competing as a member of the Bishop's Gaiters, from both the forward and midfield positions, Lawther's experience and speed were key factors in the Knights six goals in 2014. Lawther is currently enrolled in the Niagara College sport management program.

Having spent the last two seasons competing for the Seneca Sting, the third year Forbes was a crucial piece of the 2014 Niagara College Knights women' soccer program. The Ajax native played virtually every position on the field, and her relentless work ethic was her best asset. Forbes is currently studying Recreation Therapy.
