The Niagara College men's volleyball program is excited to announce the addition of Andrew VandenBurg, a recent graduate from Smithville Christian High School. 

A versatile player, VandenBurg led his school team to the Class A OFSAA championship in 2013 while winning a silver medal at the 17U OVA provincial championship with his club team, the Niagara Rapids. 

"Andrew is an exceptional athlete and electrifying jumper," said head coach Nathan Groenveld.  "He also has a history of winning at both the club and high school level and we hope that that success continues at the collegiate level."

A native of St. Catharines, VandenBurg witnessed the success of the 2014-2015 men's volleyball program first-hand.   Combined with the school's proximity to his family and friends, choosing Niagara College was an easy choice.

"I really wanted to be a part of a college level volleyball program," VandenBurg said.  "Being close to home and near my friends made signing with Niagara College a simple decision."

VandenBurg will join a Knights program that is coming off the most successful athletic season in school history.  After finishing the 2014-15 OCAA regular season with a 12-6 record, the Knights went on to win the fourth gold medal in school history, their eighth OCAA medal overall.  To top off that performance, the men's volleyball program became the first team sport in school history to finish top three at a CCAA competition, bringing home the bronze medal.

VandenBurg is the fourth recruit announced by Coach Groenveld so far this summer, joining Aidan Atkinson (Ingersoll, ON), Matt Friesen (Gruthal, MB) and Mark Wikkerink (Trenton, ON).
