Female Athlete of the Week – Bailey Davis, Women’s Volleyball
Bailey Davis of the Niagara College women’s volleyball program (6-0) has been named this week’s SAC Athlete of the Week. Davis was a catalyst for the Knights during a victory in straight sets over the Conestoga Condors.
The first year setter had a game high 37 assists and is currently ranked first in the province in assists-per-set with 9.24.
The Georgetown native could be what Knights head coach Joey Martins called, “the most technically sound setter in the league.” He went on to add, “She has been a tremendous player for us this season, and setters are often overlooked for awards.”
Davis is a graduate of Georgetown District High School, and is currently enrolled in year one of the Niagara College recreation and leisure program.
The Niagara College women’s volleyball program will head out on the road this week to face the Sheridan Bruins.
Male Athlete of the Week – Aaron Vanderlugt, Men’s Volleyball
Aaron Vanderlugt of the Niagara College men’s volleyball program (4-2) has been selected as this week’s SAC male athlete of the Week. Vanderlugt served as an offensive and defensive catalyst for the Knights at home this weekend against the Conestoga Condors.
The six-foot-seven middle blocker from Burlington had a game high four stuff blocks while recording ten kills on only 14 attacks.
Vanderlugt spent the previous season competing at the OUA level with the Guelph Gryphons men’s volleyball team. He is averaging a team leading 0.89 blocks per game for the Knights in 2014-15, good enough for seventh in the province. He is currently enrolled in the Niagara College greenhouse technician program.
Vanderlugt and the rest of the Niagara College men’s volleyball program will return to action on November 26th when the team heads on the road to face the fourth place Sheridan Bruins.
