Women's Soccer Adds Grimsby Native Rachel Wachner

The Niagara College Department of Athletics & Recreation is pleased to announce the addition of Rachel Wachner to the Women's Soccer Program. Wachner has competed at the OSYL level, and was a key member of the OFSAA Champion Blessed Trinity Catholic Secondary School soccer program.

Niagara College Women's Soccer head coach Frank DeChellis commented "we are excited to welcome Rachel to the program. She has speed, agility, and endurance, and as a coaching staff we see her having success a multiple positions."

The 18-year old Grimsby native will enroll in the Educational Assistant – Special Needs Support program beginning in September, and she commented "I'm really looking forward to enrolling at Niagara. I've heard nothing but good feedback from current students and the academic program that I am getting into has a really high employment rate after graduation."

Wachner will bring a long list of personal accolades to the Knights women's soccer program including a Blessed Trinity Female Athlete of the Year award. Additionally during the 2013OFSAA women's soccer championship, Wachner recorded a hat-trick in her team's semi-final victory.

When asked what her goals were during her time at Niagara College, Wachner said "I want to represent Niagara College in the best way that I can. I want to excel in the classroom. But I also want to display solid sportsmanship, help encourage my teammates, play every game 100%, and leave the field knowing that I have done everything I can to help my team win."

Despite the lofty expectations Wachner is placing upon herself, Coach DeChellis feels his newest recruit has the potential to impact the Women's Soccer Program in a big way.

DeChellis continued, "coming off an OFSAA winning season at Blessed Trinity, she will bring a winning attitude to the group. Her past playing experience gives her a good foundation for success at the OCAA level.  She can run, she can defend, she can score.  I look forward to seeing her develop as a player with Niagara College."

The Niagara College Women's Soccer Program will kick off the 2013 season with an exhibition match against the Brock Badgers on Wednesday, August 21st at 4:30pm. During the 2013 season all Niagara College Soccer matches will feature free admission and will be played at Youngs Sportsplex.
