A pair of communications miscues early in Wednesday night's OCAA women's soccer match cost the Niagara College Knights a victory versus the Mohawk Mountaineers. The Knights were shutout 2-0 by second place Mohawk.

The Knights had several chances in the opening ten minutes of the contest. Welland native Sierra Grant and Lexy Gilby of St. Catharines created scoring chances throughout the match, but the Knights were unable to capitalize.

Mohawk quickly shifted the game's momentum recording a pair of goals in the 15th and 21st minutes. Scoring for the Mountaineers were first-year forward Rachelle DeJong and second-year forward Kaleigh Russell.

The Knights settled down defensively through the duration of the match, receiving strong individual efforts from first year defenders Leah Harrison and Shendrita Ajvazi. Harrison is a native of Mississauga and is currently enrolled in the Pre-Health Sciences program, while Ajvazi is from St. Catharines and is a studying Acting for Film and Televsion.

Despite the loss, Knights women's soccer head coach Frank DeChellis felt "it was nice to see the different girls having strong games at different times." He added "but moving forward we need the entire team to have strong games at the same time."

The loss drops the Knights to 1-3-1 on the season. The team currently sits in a tie for sixth in the OCAA West Division. The team will travel to London to take on the Fanshawe Falcons (2-0-2) on Saturday, September 28th
