Male Athlete of the Week – Tyler Stranges
Tyler Stranges of the Niagara College men’s soccer program has been named this week’s male athlete of the week.
The second year native of Welland was outstanding for the Knights during the team’s season opening 1-0 loss to the Fanshawe Falcons. The midfielder logged a full 90 minutes in the contest, and helped provide leadership and rock solid stability for the Knights.
“Between the ears, Tyler is one of the smartest players we’ve ever had” said Niagara College men’s soccer head coach Frank DeChellis. “He was the best player on both sides of the ball against Fanshawe, and he gets better and calmer as the game becomes more intense.”
Stranges and the rest of the Niagara College men’s soccer program will return to action on September 13th when the team hosts the Mohawk Mountaineers at 6:00pm at Youngs SportsPlex.
Female Athlete of the Week – Kara Latham
Reigning Niagara College female rookie of the year Kara Latham (Welland) has been named this week’s female athlete of the week.
The dynamic second year midfielder was outstanding during the Knights September 9th road loss to the Fanshawe Falcons.
Latham was dominant in both the attacking and ball control games, helping spearhead a comeback the nearly saw the Knights claw out of a 2-0 first half deficit. “Kara was incredible on Saturday” said Niagara College women’s soccer head coach Rob Lalama. “She controlled the play, and she won every 1v1 battle on the pitch.”
Latham and the rest of the Knights will look to get into the win column on September 13th when the team hosts the Mohawk Mountaineers at 4:00pm at Youngs SportsPlex.
