PREVIEW: Knights look to return to form against Mountaineers

Following a season opening loss to the Sheridan Bruins (2-0, 1st OCAA West), the Niagara Knights men's basketball program (0-1, 3rd OCAA West) are hoping to get back on track Saturday. The Knights will visit the Mohawk Mountaineers (0-0, 3rd OCAA West) in Hamilton.

The Knights dropped their season opener 84-80 following a late comeback effort by the Bruins. With another tough matchup ahead, the Knights will be looking to rebound against the Mountaineers. Last season Niagara and Mohawk split the season series, with each team winning on the road. Mohawk was one of four teams that finished ahead of the Knights last season in the OCAA's West Division. It will be a key divisional matchup should Niagara advance themselves in the regular season standings this year.

Van Hutchinson Jr. (Nassau, Bahamas) was the Knights leading scorer throughout the preseason, and kept the points rolling against Sheridan. Hutchinson Jr dropped a game high 18 points to go along with 10 rebounds to complete the double-double in his Niagara regular season debut. His offensive presence will be relied on throughout the season, and the matchup against the Mountaineers will be no different.

Following their matchup against the Mountaineers, the Knights will return home for the 2nd Annual Blue and White Home Opener on November 3rd. The Humber Hawks will visit the Welland Campus Athletic Centre in front of what should be a sold out home crowd for the Knights. Tickets for the home opener will be $5 for adults, and free for all Niagara College students and kids under the age of 17.
