McCabe and Hylton named Athletes of the Week

Female athlete of the Week – Alyssa McCabe, Women’s Basketball

Alyssa McCabe of the Niagara College women’s basketball program has been named this week’s female athlete of the week. March 2-4 saw the Knights compete at the 2017 OCAA Championship hosted by Seneca College, McCabe was fantastic for Niagara as the team finished the event as the consolation bracket winner.

The Knights’ finished the event with a 2-1 record, the lone defeat coming on the opening day, in a heartbreaking game that saw the host Sting edge the Knights 70-67. The majority of the Knights struggled in the contest, but McCabe was outstanding, finishing with a career high 27 points, while also adding seven rebounds, and five steals.

McCabe followed up the performance with games of 25 points, eight rebounds, and five steals in the Knights second game, and 15 points and six assists in the consolation final.

“Alyssa was our best player at the OCAA's” said Niagara College women’s basketball head coach Mike Beccaria. “She scored, defended, handed out assists, and led the team to the consolation victory.”

Male Athlete of the Week – Lequan Hylton, Men’s Basketball

Lequan Hylton of the Niagara College men’s basketball program has been named this week’s male athlete of the week. Hylton was the Knights’ best player at the 2017 OCAA Championship hosted by Centennial College from March 2-4.

The Knights finished the event in fourth place after losing to the Humber Hawks in the bronze Medal game.

Hylton’s best performance came in the OCAA semi-final game against the George Brown Huskies. The 2016-17 second team all-star carried the Knights finishing with a game high 23 points and six assists.
