Something has got to give on Friday, January 27th when two of the top ranked teams in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) meet at the Welland Campus Athletic Centre. The No. 3 ranked Niagara Knights will play host to the No. 1 ranked Sheridan Bruins in a highly anticipated men's basketball matchup that will determine first place in the OCAA West Division.
Tip-off is set for 8:00pm. Admission is free for Niagara College students and those under the age of 18. For all other members of the Niagara College community tickets cost $5.00.
The Knights and Bruins currently sit 1-2 in the OCAA West Division standings. Sheridan is a perfect 9-0 while the Knights sit 9-1.
The Knights have been riding a high in the early stages of 2017 easily dismissing the Mohawk Mountaineers and Redeemer Royals last week, before besting the CCAA no. 7 ranked Humber Hawks on Wednesday night 75-63. The Knights have won nine straight games.
The Knights lone loss came via a season opening 84-80 road heartbreaker to Sheridan. The Knights led 80-74 with just over two minutes remaining, but an explosive 10-0 run to finish the contest saw the Bruins capture the dramatic victory.
The two teams have bested all opponents since October 21st setting the stage for a clash between OCAA titans on Friday night.
A tale of the tape shows two evenly matched opponents.
