RECAP: Niagara flies high in victory over Falcons

It was the ending to the first semester that the Niagara Knights men's basketball program (6-1, 2nd OCAA West) was looking for. The Knights ran away with a 95-73 victory over the Fanshawe Falcons (5-4, 4th OCAA West) on Wednesday night in Welland.

It was all Knights from the beginning, jumping out to an early lead that they would never relinquish. Niagara led by 21 at halftime, and squash any comeback attempts by the Falcons en route to the win.

As has been the case all season, it was scoring by committe for Niagara, with four Knights hitting double figure. Van Hutchinson Jr (Nassau, Bahamas) had a game high 25 points to go along with seven rebounds, a pair of steals, and an assist.

Romello Taylor (Toronto) with 15, Jordon McDonald (Mississauga) with 11, and Payam Saboni (London) with 10 rounded out the Knights top scorers. Collectively the Knights shot just over 48% from the field, their second best output of the season.

After dropping their season opener, the Knights have rattled off six straight victories to close out the semester. It is the first time since the 2001-02 season that a Niagara team has put together a six game winning streak.

The Knights will have nearly six weeks off from the OCAA regular season, which picks up in the second half on January 12th when the Mohawk Mountaineers come to Welland.
