NEWS: Jeff Scott sets Niagara Knights career points record

Jeff Scott (Georgetown) broke the Niagara Knights men's volleyball program's career points record on November 11th in Ancaster against the Redeemer Royals.

Scott entered the contest with 754 career points, including 61 this season. He needed only seven points to break Niagara Knights Hall of Fame member Graeme Gaunt's 13 year old record of 760 career points. Averaging just over 20 points through the season's first three matches, it was nearly an inevitability that the record would be broken against the Royals. The record breaking point came on a kill in the matches' 3rd set.

Head Coach Nathan Groenveld was proud of not only the player that Scott has evolved into, but the student-athlete as well. "The record is a great milestone for Jeff," said Groenveld. "This record is very impressive." Groenveld was equally impressed with the leader that has developed in Scott. "As a coach I am much more proud of the young man Jeff has become in his time at Niagara. He has matured into a great leader and has been an integral part of the Niagara College community."

In just the fourth game this season, there will be plenty of remaining opportunities for Scott to extend the record as he closes out the fifth and final year of his collegiate career. The new record adds to a of a number of Knights career records already held by Scott, including matches played (70), digs (459), and service aces (73).

Jeff Scott will be honoured for his accomplishment prior to the Knights next home match on November 17th, when the Conestoga Condors visit the Welland Campus Athletic Centre.
