Ingribelli and Williamson Named Athletes of the Week

Female Athlete of the Week – Mary Ingribelli, Women’s Basketball

Mary Ingribelli (St. Catharines) of the Niagara Knights women’s basketball program has been named this week’s female athlete of the week. Ingribelli led the Knights in scoring during a pair of critical home court victories on February 11th and 12th at the Welland Athletic Centre.

During the Knights 81-55 victory on February 11th against the Lambton Lions, the veteran third-year guard posted her first double-double of the season finishing with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while also adding three steals and two assists.

The former Governor Simcoe Redcoat followed up the double-double with arguably her best game of the season, during a 63-56 victory over the St. Clair Saints. In a must win game for the Knights, Ingribelli posted a team high 19 points, while also adding seven rebounds.

The weekend victories moves the Knights to 12-5 on the season and into third place in the log jammed OCAA West Division. The Knights have one game remaining against the Fanshawe Falcons (11-5) on February 17th in London. A victory will see the Knights lock up third place and a home playoff game, while a loss could see the team finish as low as 5th in the division.

Male Athlete of the Week – Jacob Williamson, Men’s Volleyball

Jacob Williamson (St. Catharines) of the Niagara College men’s volleyball program has been named this week’s male athlete of the week. Williamson was an absolute force for the Knights during their must-win home court victory over the Sheridan Bruins on February 9th.

The six-foot-six former Eden Flyer was virtually unstoppable during the Knights four set victory against the Bruins, finishing with 19 kills and two blocks will hitting a red hot 61.5% in the match.

The first-year middle blocker joined the Knights at the midseason mark after recovering from an offseason ankle injury. He is averaging an impressive 3.8 points-per-set over his first 7 games.

The victory over the Bruins secured a playoff spot for the 9-8 Knights. The team has just one game remaining in the regular season, a February 15th home court matchup against the 11-6 Redeemer Royals.
