Knights win regular season opener away against Sheridan

October 22, 2023

OAKVILLE, ONT:, The Niagara College men's volleyball team (1-0) won their first game of the season Sunday afternoon, defeating the hosting Sheridan Bruins (0-1) 3-1. (Set scores were 17-25, 25-18, 28-26, 25-15)

The Knights struggled to find their footing early in their game with some key injuries to their players, dropping the first set to the Bruins. Our men were able to step back up in the second set through some key plays by second-year libero Mitch Churipuy to take a commanding win in set two.

The third set saw a back and forth, long battle between both sides, where our Knights were able to claim their second set of the afternoon before a decisive 10 point win in set four to seal the victory for the men.

After the victory, head coach Steve Stone had this to say about his team's performance this afternoon, "Really happy with walking away with a win today. I thought the boys executed the game plan well. Our reception was on point and our service was good enough to apply pressure and take them out of the system. Good team effort all around."

The Knights' next games will see them head north next weekend to play Boreal (0-2) on Saturday, October 28th then heading to Cambrian (1-1) on Sunday, October 29th.
