Straight set victory for the Knights

WELLAND, ONT:, The Niagara College men's volleyball team (11-7) were back at home Saturday afternoon, hosting the Sheridan Bruins (3-14).  The Knights get the same result as their season opener against the Bruins, this time winning in 3 straight sets (Set scores were 25-14, 29-27 and 25-21).

The Knights started this match firing on all cylinders, taking the first set decisively.  The second set saw a back-and-forth affair with the Knights needing a little extra time to win before closing the door on the afternoon and taking the third set.  Tyler Carmichael led the Knights coming out of the battle with 12 kills, 4 digs, 1 block and a .579 kill percentage.  Liam Marchetti was hot on his heels with 11 kills, 2 blocks, 1 assist, 1 service ace and a .526 kill percentage of his own.  Ashton Nieuwets and Carter Thurman combined for 22 digs, 37 assists, 7 kills, 1 block and 1 service ace.

Commenting on the match, head coach Steve Stone mentioned that it was "nice to finish off the season with two wins."  He continued to comment that the "boys have been focused and have been executing really well.  We've cleaned up a lot of errors and have been provided a spark from multiple different players – full team effort."

The Knights finish their regular season finishing 6th in their conference.  They begin playoff action on Saturday, February 10th as they head out on the road to take on the 3rd place team in the east.  Knights fans can watch all the action and cheer the team on at www.ocaalive.com.
