Knights return with loss to Hawks

November 30, 2023

ETOBICOKE, ONT:, The Niagara College men's volleyball team (7-3) took to the road Thursday night to take on the Humber Hawks (6-4), unfortunately losing 3-0 (Set scores were 22-25, 24-26 and 14-25).

With two hard fought sets to begin the match, the Knights just could not get anything going in the 3rd and final set.  Carter Thurman, the 3rd year setter out of Saskatchewan, led the way for the Knights with 17 assists and 1 service ace.  Tyler Carmichael, Liam Marchetti and Micah Nieuwets all contributed 6 kills each to the Knights cause, while also adding in a combined 8 digs.

Head coach of the Knights, Steve Stone, expressed how "Humber is a big and tough team and it's always fun to go compete against them in their barn" at the end of the match.  He continued on to say the "boys did well to compete for two sets, but in the end we didn't quite execute well enough to come away with a win."  When Stone was asked about the play of his middles, he said "or middles played great offensively and we had some great moments but we need a few more great moments to come out on top."

The Knights' next game will see them come home to play against the Fanshawe Falcons (8-2) at the Simplii Financial Athletic Centre at the Niagara College Welland Campus.
