Knights Downed by Falcons

Knights Downed by Falcons

January 27, 2024

LONDON, ONT:, The Niagara College men's volleyball team (9-7) were back on the road Saturday evening to take on the Fanshawe Falcons (11-5).  Unfortunately, the result was not one the Knights were looking for as they lost 3-1 (Set scores were 21-25, 25-17, 17-25 and 18-25).

The Knights came battling back to win the 2nd set but just could not muster up enough fight to win the match.  The highlight of the night was Carter Thurman, the 3rd year setter hailing from Balgonie, Saskatchewan, surpassing 1000 career assists.  Ashton Nieuwets notched 11 kills, 5 digs, 3 assists and 2 services aces in the match while Matthew Takacs followed close behind with 10 kills, 3 digs, 1 block and 1 service ace.

Looking back on the match, head coach Steve Stone noted that it was a "tough one – Fanshawe is a well coached team and they execute really well."  Stone continued by saying that "we (the Knights) handed them too many freebies and made our defence work harder than it had to.  I have no doubt that we'll regroup, learn and come ready to compete in the next one."

Speaking of the next one, the Knights take to the road one last time as they travel to Hamilton, Ontario on Wednesday, January 31st to clash with the Mohawk Mountaineers (7-9), who are right behind them in the standings.  Knights fans can watch all the action and cheer the team on at www.ocaalive.com.
