Familiar Face Takes Over NC Volleyball Head Coaching Duties

February 26, 2024... (WELLAND, ON) – Niagara College is excited to announce Steve Stone will return as the head coach of the men's and women's Knights volleyball teams. Stone will prepare to be at the helm for both the men's and women's volleyball programs as they prepare for the 2024-2025 season.

"It's with great enthusiasm that we name Steve Stone the head coach of our men's and women's volleyball teams," said Michele O'Keefe, Director, Athletics & Student Engagement at Niagara College. "This is a unique opportunity to provide stability and strong technical leadership for our varsity volleyball program. We are confident that Coach Stone and his pool of assistant coaches will deliver a vibrant atmosphere for success."

Coach Stone started as head coach of the men's volleyball team in the fall of 2022 and took over the women's team in the second half of the 2023-2024 season. Stone played for the Niagara College Knights men's volleyball team in the 2007 season, as well as from 2014-2016. During his time at Niagara College, Stone was a CCAA Academic All-Canadian, National Scholar Award winner, and Provincial Championship MVP while also winning OCAA gold in 2014 en route to a CCAA bronze medal.

Stone brings a clear direction to the team as he places a massive emphasis on a culture that is based around teamwork and respect. He brings an abundance of experience with him, both as a player and a coach, that will help the team find success not only on the court, but also throughout their time at Niagara College in the classroom.

Coach Stone is thrilled to be given the opportunity to pilot the coaching of both varsity volleyball teams. With the tremendous support of his family, Coach Stone recognizes that his assistant coaching pool will also be critical for success.

"I couldn't be more excited for this role. This is a special and talented group of student-athletes and I know together we can make this program one of the best in the country," he said. "We have some unfinished business, and I am happy we can continue the work we've started."
